Bored of board games? Family-oriented videogames could be the solution

While playing board games might be a fun way to spend a family evening or other social event; children, parents and even grandparents can all get together and have a great time playing videogames. Although once thought of as an isolating and alienating influence, videogames are now becoming a favoured means of bonding for families.

A new survey by PopCap Games, released last month, found that 92% of casual gaming parents and grandparents used videogames to bond with their children or grandchildren. 70% of the respondents also cited that playing videogames with their young could help them improve their eye-hand co-ordination and memory and provided an opportunity for learning, stress relief and confidence-building.

Professor Mark Griffiths, Professor of Gambling Studies at Nottingham Trent University, agreed with the survey's findings:

'Empirical research has consistently shown that in the right context, computer and videogames can have a positive educational, psychological and therapeutic benefit to a large range of different ages and sub-groups,' he told ElectricNews.net.

Recent years have seen an increase in the amount of games released with family interaction in mind, with the most popular being the Buzz!, SingStar and Guitar Hero series of videogames, all available for the PlayStation 2.

The Buzz! series of videogames allows up to 8 players to compete in quizzes just like real TV game shows, complete with the host - Buzz - and his assistant, Rose, all accompanied by an audience that claps and laughs, on a variety of topics – there are two general knowledge editions and three special editions for music, sports and Hollywood, respectively. The games even use special five-button Buzz! controllers to further authenticate the feel of being on a real game show. There is also the Buzz! Junior series, featuring party games rather than quizzes, aimed more at younger children, but can be equally enjoyable for older children or even adults.

SingStar is a karaoke game where players sing to music videos in order to score points, using microphones plugged into the console. Lyrics are shown at the bottom of the screen and players score points in real-time according to how accurate their singing is. The game allows two players to compete simultaneously, and up to 8 players can face off in a series of singing challenges using the ‘Pass the Mic’ feature. SingStar is different to most karaoke in that the rights have been obtained to use the original sound recording, meaning players can sing along to the actual track, while the original vocals can be lowered or elevated in the mix depending on the player’s, or audience’s, choice. The series includes different editions offering a diverse selection of music, including SingStar ‘80s, SingStar Rocks! and the upcoming SingStar Bollywood.

Guitar Hero allows players to play along to their favourite rock songs on a special guitar-shaped controller. In the game, an extended guitar neck is shown on-screen, and as the song progresses, coloured markers indicating notes scroll down the screen in time with the music. The player has to push the corresponding buttons on the guitar controller in order to gain points, and the game supports both cooperative and competitive modes, allowing two people to play simultaneously. The songs included in the games cover a variety of genres, from easier numbers, like “Smoke on the Water” by Deep Purple, to the ridiculously hard, such as “Free Bird” by Lynyrd Skynyrd. The latest instalment, Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock will be released later next month.

So if you’re looking for something that can appeal to family members of all ages and provide endless hours of fun and friendly competition, party games for the PS2 are the way to go.

Top 7 Things to Do With Your PSP Besides Play Games

Okay, so most people buy a PSP to play games, right? But what if you are just not sure you need another game system? And what do you do with the PSP until that one game you've been waiting for comes out? Just like its big brother the PlayStation 2, the PSP can do more than just play games. Some of the PSP's extra features will be more useful than others, but it's pretty cool that it has them at all, and each new system update adds new things to play with. 1) Listen to Music: The PSP is a multimedia player which can play video as well as audio files much like an iPod. With a PC, a USB cable, and a memory stick, you can download your music to your PSP and listen on the road. It may not be a big deal if you have already got an MP3 player, except instead of having separate machines for games and music, with the PSP you only carry one. You will probably need a bigger memory stick than the one that comes in the box, but they're getting cheaper every day. Download Full albums, single songs, unreleased mixes plus more! You can transfer music from your computer to your PSP with ease! Copy your own CD collection or download from our existing database of music already available online. 2) Watch Movies: According to some few reports, sales of movies in the PSP's UMD format are higher than sales of games. Regardless, the PSP makes a nifty portable movie player. You can either buy movies on UMD, or transfer your own DVD movies onto a memory stick. The PSP's screen might seem too small for movie-watching, but it's actually super-sharp, and the audio is great with headphones. And I swear I saw a laptop-sized portable DVD player at Walmart with a screen about the same size as the PSP's. Download Full DVD Quality movies, video clips, music videos plus more! You can transfer films from your computer to your PSP with ease! Copy your own DVD collection or download from our existing database of movies already available online. All you need is a PSP USB cable or compatible memory stick reader, and at least a 256MB Memory Card. You will be able to transfer films or Movie Clips from your PC to your PSP! This includes the following formats: AVI, MPEG, RM, WMV, MOV, MP4, MPEG4, XVID, DIVX, AC3, OGG, 3G. Not only can you play the movie and television show downloads on your PSP you can play them on your computer, a compatible media player, or your DVD player. All movies and television show downloads are fully compatible with all major DVD players. 3) Look at Pictures: You can also download and view photos (or any other images in a supported format) with a memory stick. You can zoom, rotate, and move pictures, and even view them as a slideshow. It is an easy way to show your relatives your latest digital snapshots, without a computer. You can even transfer photos from your PSP onto your mother's PC. The possibilities of using the PSP as a portable portfolio of my art and design were a significant factor in my decision to buy one as soon as I did. 4) Surf the Web: With the system update version 2.0, an internet browser was added to the PSP's features. The 'keyboard' might take a while to get used to, but if you've ever sent a text message on your cell phone, you should not have any difficulty. You might not want to bother with websurfing at home on your PSP, especially if you have a desktop or laptop computer handy, but if you're out of the house, you can access any open wireless points. Why lug around a laptop when all you need is your PSP? 5) See in the Dark: You might consider this a stretch, but I have found the PSP's bright screen handy on several occasions, such as trying to sign an attendance form in a completely dark lecture theatre (I could never have found my name on the list if I hadn't pulled out my PSP and turned it on). Another time, I had to sneak around in a dark room in which my roommate was sleeping. I couldn't have found what I was looking for without waking her if it were not for my PSP. 6) PSP Keyboard Mod: Though not very practical, the homebrew PSP keyboard mod allows users to create and save text files. Apparently Logic 3 has been trying to develop a keyboard for the PSP for some time but they have been beaten to it by a homebrew hacker, whose new application allows you to save short notes as .txt files on your console 7) PSPhone: That is right, a modder has managed to create a custom phone chip for the PSP, which amazingly enough, is able to receive incoming calls, and display the current signal strength. Though currently unable to make outgoing calls, PSPhone is also capable of communicating over both CDMA & GSM cellular networks. I am still working on how to resize it and get it into a mass production. The pack will contain: X1 antenna X1 board headsets with microphone X2 wires X1 32 mega memory stick The antenna to connect to the local network. On the board will be a switch to switch between CDMA network (without sim card) and the GSM network (with the sim card). The wires are to connect the board and the antenna to the PSP. All will cost approximately more or less than $60.

Nintendo System-Wii The Revolution Has Begun

Nintendo System Wii The Revolution Has Begun

Though I haven't really been a video game lover for years, and I hadn't tried the new Nintendo System Wii I did teach myself some of the finer concepts of playing 'actual' tennis, from playing David Cranes tennis on an old Nintendo Console, many years ago. I figured out the specifics of spin, and curving the balI on the 'real' tennis court from playing a video game!

Though that's really the only game I've ever played to any extent, I was excited when my daughter came to visit me, and brought her brand new Nintendo System Wii with her!

I now regard myself a 100% Nintendo Wii convert! As I read my first limited review on the new Nintendo System Wii, I found myself questioning the motion-reactive controls (the remote control and nunchuck) and the wand that you needed to locate in front or on top of the television set. Not only that, but reports of the Nintendo System Wii graphics seemed abominable.

Would the Nintendo System Wii be able to contend in a video game domain where, whenever you are performing NBA 2007 on a Playstation 2, you can see the perspiration droplets on Shaq's realistic facial expression?

The Nintendo System Wii comprises a diminutive and noiseless console and fits virtually anyplace. The Playstation 3 comparitively is immense and is more difficult to hide. Sony has made some odd choices when it comes to their flagship console, and it lacks the innovation of the Nintendo System Wii, in so many ways, aesthetically as well as in function. Nintendo System Wii has it over Sony in almost every department.

In spite of my reluctance regarding the Nintendo System Wii wand/remote, there is zero awkwardness or discombobulation regarding them. The remote control and nunchuck controls are logical, and the Nintendo System Wii provides oodles of on-screen direction just in case you ever become befuddled. The Playstation 3 on the other hand provides no equal controller or progressive simplicity of use.

Nintendo System Wii should be commended for bringing out a $300 game console that does not forget a whole generation of users behind. The Nintendo System Wii arrives set up to play all GameCube games and includes concealed ports for GameCube controls. Although Sony didn't make the mistake of backwards compatability, this is one of the issues with Xbox, many of the newer games don't play properly on Xbox 360.

The Nintendo System Wii is sinking in to our culture in many ways, apart from the ease of use of the Nintendo System Wii, there are so many other great facets to it. The fact that there is the potential to burn calories and work up a sweat, is a revolution in itself. There are companies out there now devising Public Rooms you will be able to rent for parties, that are set up for the ultimate Nintendo System Wii experience. I've also seen reports of Fitness Centers putting Nintendo System Wii systems in for their clients to use as a warmup before their workout.

All in all the Nintendo System Wii is set to revolutionize society as no game console has done before.

Xbox 360 Mod Chip - What Is It And Should You Buy One?

As a serious gamer myself, I love to see games before they hit our shores here in North America. But more than that, I am always looking for the hottest and most unique games I can get my hands on. Unfortunately, many of those games just don't come to our side of the ocean from Japan. Typically, since the days of the original Nintendo NES, Japanese gamers have enjoyed much more unique and often times much better games than their North American Counter Parts. I've been very fortunate to be able to play many of these Japanese games while I was living in Japan, but when I returned back home to Canada, I simply could not find many of the games that I had played with such pleasure while in Japan. So I searched and researched and found exactly what I needed to be able to just put those Japanese games into game console and really start playing again. What I found was a Mod Chip, for my Playstation console. And I've been using mod chips ever since then. Having most recently purchased and installed my Xbox 360 Mod Chip into my system - and I've got games from Japan on the way. So Just what IS a mod chip? Let me explain. A modification chip or mod chip is a device used to play import, backup, or home brew games. Mod Chips first came into 'fame' when die hard, hard core gamers who were tired of the slim offerings that were made available for them in the USA, wanted to get their hands on the often better and more unique Japanese games that were coming out for their game console. This is nothing new, even the Nintendo NES has a device that allowed gamers to plug Japanese Famicom cartridges into their USA NES system so that they could play those really unique Japanese games, or the latest Mario offering that was only available (or came out much sooner) in Japan. Mod chips are available for all the major video game consoles, including the Xbox 360, Xbox, Sony PSP, PlayStation, Playstation 2 and GameCube. Almost all modern console gaming systems have hardware-based schemes which ensure that only officially sanctioned games may be used with the system and implement regional lockout similar to the scheme used in DVD movies. The specific technical nature of these DRM systems varies by system, and may include cryptographic signing (Xbox), intentionally unreadable sectors (PlayStation, Sega Saturn), custom optical media (GameCube, Dreamcast), or some combination thereof. Modchips are available also for some DVD players, to defeat region code enforcement and user operation prohibitions. Modchips typically require some level of technical ability to install. Most commonly, modchips must be soldered on to a console's motherboard, although there are no-solder install kits (which instead rely on the precise positioning of electrical contacts within the case) which work with some revisions of the PlayStation 2 and Xbox hardware. As console systems got better and better, a whole following of home brew developers starting making their own software for their consoles. Software like the Xbox Media Center (XMBC) as well as their own little games and programs to stream video and audio. But in order to play / run this software, users are required to be able to load unsigned / home brew code onto their system. This is where mod chips come in. Not only do they allow you to play the latest game offerings from Japan, which as stated earlier, are often much better both graphically and in the way of originality than the games that are for the North American market. As with any new system, and the new mod chips that first come out - we're always hit with loads of 'compatibility' issues. Much like when the ps2 mod chip first came out, they had chips (different chips) for each 'version' of the ps2 console. And the Xbox 360 mod chips are no exception. The very first chips that came out were for very specific 'versions' of the XBox 360. First it was a mod chip for the Samsung drives .. Which means that if your XBox 360 had a samsung DVD drive, then you needed to buy an Xbox 360 mod chip that worked on the SAMSUNG drive, to bypass the current firmware. Then the Team Underdog chip came out, this chip had 2 versions. One for the samsung drives, and another one for the LG/Hitachi Drives. So again, you were 'stuck' having to find out exactly which Xbox 360 you had, in order to select the right chip for your console. Now, as with most developments in the mod chip manufacturing world, eventually, some very smart programmers and developers finally get it right. Naturally, it is common sense to assume that customers would be much more likely to buy a mod chip for their Xbox 360 is they could do away with the 'version' checking, and buy a chip that they KNOW will work in their Xbox 360 console... Of course, when they take it apart after receiving their chip, they WILL have to find out which model they have so they can use the right installation directions - but they don't have to fret or worry that the chip they have purchased may NOT be compatible with their XBox 360. Much like any product, customers want the peace of mind of knowing that what they are buying will simply just WORK, and in the case of mod chips, will work in their Xbox 360 console regardless of the version of the Xbox 360 that they purchased. In comes the Globe 360 Xbox 360 Mod Chip. The Globe 360 is the world's First Xbox 360 mod chip that is compatible with ALL DVD Drives currently on the market! Rather than having to figure out which model drive you have, as you do with other chips, the Globe360 Xbox 360 Mod chip works in ANY drive model to date. And the home brew software that is available is outstanding - and I expect it to get a whole lot better. My Xbox already acts as a complete media center, even streaming Google Videos directly from the Internet. And my Playstation 2 has been transformed from just an awesome games machine to a DVD Player, DivX Player, MP3 Player, and streaming content directly to the console from the Internet makes it something that I could not do without. To sum it up, if you have an Xbox 360, then you should really consider getting an Xbox 360 mod chip. Not only will you be able to protect your expensive investments by making backup copies of your own original games, and putting the originals away for safe keeping, but you'll also open up a whole new world of games that you simply would not be able to play otherwise. There are truly very unique (and playable) Japanese games that we'll simply never see otherwise. And if home brew or cool utilities, applications or add-ons are your thing, then having a mod chip is an absolute must.

How to Fix Scratched PS2 Games

Even though the PS3 is quickly becoming popular, many of us have decided to stick to the PS2. There are more games, cheaper products, and more options for purchase. Heck, you can even download PS2 games on the internet. Of course, these games are going to get a lot of use (because they're awesome!) and eventually you are going to want to know how to fix scratched PS2 games. This article will help.

Is it scratched or just dirty?

Sometimes the problem with our game is not a scratch. Really, the PS2 will read a lot of games with shallow scratches but it really has a problem with caked-on gook. Try cleaning the disc before you attempt to fix the scratch (or you might do work harm than is necessary).

It's scratched! How do you fix it?

It's actually really easy to fix scratched PS2 games. This is what you need.

  • Baking Soda Toothpaste
  • a Lint-free cloth (an eyeglasses cloth is perfect)

Before you start you should know that it is not a good idea to wipe your disc in circles. Unlike old LPs (where you had to follow the groove), PS2 Games should be rubbed from the center straight to the outside edge. Wiping in circles does more damage and you want to avoid that.

5 Simple steps to fix scratched PS2 games

  • Put a little warm water on the disc.
  • apply a little toothpaste to your cloth
  • rub (as directed) over the scratched area and around it. If you have a lot of scratches then you should do the whole disc. 10-15 swipes from inside to out should do the trick.
  • rinse the toothpaste off
  • allow the disc to air dry

See? It's not hard to fix scratched PS2 Games at all. There is one problem to this method though; You can do it too often. Realize that you are grinding down the plastic surface around the crack to make the PS2 think it's shallow. If you do it too often then you will have no plastic buffer left and the foil data layer will get destroyed. For serious problems (or repeated damage) your best bet is to resurface the disc.

Swap Magic Brings Welcome Gaming Alternatives for Legal Responsible PS2 Disc Owners

I first heard of Swap Magic was when I was busy solving eerie mysteries and killing grotesque looking creatures in Silent Hill 4. I admit it--I am a Playstation 2 fanatic. I have somehow acquired this addiction from my cousin who always includes me in his long hours of playing PS2, from racing games to Role Playing Games (RPGs). During one of my mystery packed game session of SH 4 'The Room,' my cousin suddenly came out of nowhere and excitedly started talking about the Swap Magic for Playstation 2. One of the most annoying problems faced by PS2 players is that the PS2 console won't allow users to play imported game CD titles and back up copies of legally obtained titles. Many PS2 gamers find themselves out of luck when, after shelling out big bucks for a legal copy, their legal copy becomes scratched or unusable. To add insult to injury, many titles sell out quickly or go out of print, responsible law abiding PS2 players once again find themselves in a bind. Swap Magic solves these problems. Swap Magic, which comes bundled with a in CD and DVD format disc, allows every PS2 fan to use or play imported or backed-up games on their Playstation 2. Imported game titles include both foreign translations of US titles or games published by foreign publishers. Backed-up games are Playstation 2 games legally copied by individual game disc owners for back up or archival purposes. Legal disc owners usually back up their libraries to protect against accidents or damage to the original discs they normally use. Swap Magic poses a major advance for PS2 gamers. Not only does it allow once to play archived and imported copies, it is extremely easy to use. You only need to boot your PS2 with the disc. After boot up, you swap it with imported or backed-up game discs. The Swap Magic comes with a Swap Tool which is included with every package, to enable you to swap your games effortlessly. Just why would a gamer be interested in import games? That's a very good question, and one I just love to talk about. Most of the hottest and rarest games often come out for the Japanese market or the Asian and European markets. If you're looking for the coolest puzzle game, you've got to have a Japanese PS2 to play it. The best rally and other racing games often come out only in Europe, which means you would need a European PS2 to play the games. With the Swap Magic, your USA PS2 will be able to play all of the hottest game titles that will probably never make it this side of the Ocean. And for European gamers that just can't get enough of the US games, Swap Magic comes in your version too, with a USA, PAL and JAPANESE version of the discs available. There are various ways of using the Swap Magic disc. A slide card is used for an original Playstation2 console. In a Slim PS2 on the other hand, there are other options that you can also choose from in disc switching. There are numerous websites that offer a number of disc swapping devices and methods which are designed for archive and imported disc play on the PS2. These other methods range from replacing the original top loading lid with a new lid for easy switching to installing a switch that will allow the original lid to open without the system even knowing it. Although Swap Magic allows legal PS2 game owners to play backed-up/archive copies of their legally acquired discs, Swap Magic also prevents users from making illegal copies. Swap Magic retains the same copy protection systems that the PS2 uses. While there are many versions of Swap Magic on the market, Swap Magic's terms clearly prohibit the illegal copying and use of PS2 game titles. Used responsibly, Swap Magic enables PS2 game owners an extra measure of peace of mind. Swap Magic users can rest assured that when they back up rare or discontinued game titles, the back ups will work as expected.

How To Buy PlayStation 2 Console Cheaply

If you are looking to buy PlayStation 2 console cheaply there are several things that you can do to ensure that you get a high value gaming system. Although you want to save money you also want to be certain that you are getting a console that works. With a little extra measure of diligence you can get the gaming system at a fair price and be assured that it really works.

Avoid These Common Mistakes

While some thrift or second-hand stores do sell gaming system this is not always the best way to go. These establishments do not always have the resources or time to ensure that their electronic products are in tip-top condition. There is also generally no real warranty in place to ensure that if something goes wrong within the first several weeks or months after your purchase that you are able to get your money back.

If you do find a system here at a fair price it is a good idea to ask one of the staff to allow you to please try the system out. If they are willing to do so you can turn the system on, make certain that all cords, connectors, adapters and other accessories are not frayed and are in good working order. Unless there is a game to run however, you are essentially taking a risk. If the price proves worth the risk however, you may be able to get away with a pretty phenomenal price.

Smartest Places to Shop for a PS2

Many gaming stores offer reconditioned units and this is usually one of the best ways to go. This way you can get a good working unit quite inexpensively. You will also typically get a store issued guarantee of the product that will cover any problems that arise within the first thirty to sixty days following your purchase. Best of all, if the gaming store carries the PlayStation 2 it will likely have a broad range of used games that you can stock up on pretty cheaply.

You can also check out the numerous online suppliers that offer reconditioned consoles as well. This is also another stellar way to buy PlayStation 2 console, accessories and games. By reading consumer ratings and reviews you can find a stellar gaming supplier that offers quality products, firm guarantees and highly competitive rates.

Download PS2 Games - How to Download PS2 Games Online

What would you say if I told you, you can now download PS2 games online? Not only has the newly arrived PS3 been out for quite a while now...but the previous systems games (the PS2) are still costing almost as much as they did when released. These days it now a lot more convenient and practical to be able to download PS2 games online and transfer to DVD through the power of the internet.

When downloading any software program or game from the internet it is always good to know the risks and issues involved. There has been much publicity in recent times on people using illegal peer-to-peer applications to enable free downloads. This is where you really benefit from using one of the paid services online for peace of mind when do download PS2 games. For a one time fee, not only do you get peace of mind any files downloaded are legal, safe and virus free, but also many of the better download sites will offer a comprehensive library of PS2 games.

Having the service archive a list of games and provide both the games, software and licensing required is generally well worth what is typically a once off nominal fee.
So, Are these sites user friendly and easy to use? Well, from the investigation I have done most seem to be. Of the 3 sites tested the process generally involves logging onto the website, performing a search for the games title, then clicking the 'download PS2 game' button. The game will generally take around 2 hours to download, (although this may change depending upon the speed of your internet connection).

Upon downloading the games will need to be transferred to DVD before they can be played on your PS2. Thankfully each of the services I subscribed to had their own DVD burning software, and as I have a DVD burner in my laptop is was no issue transferring the games onto disk.

Which are the best sites to use? There are quite a few sites available; many may be specific to a certain platform of console. Generally speaking the services that offer a large collection of games and downloads (think 10,000+) are reliable platforms that will offer both a good service and solid support and tools for the user should you encounter any problems.

I am an avid PS2 gaming Fan and crazy about console gaming in general. Check out my full PS2 Download review on how to download PS2 games

Kids PS2 Games - Fun For 2009

If you are looking for games for kids in a PS2 (Playstation 2) platform, there are quite a lot to choose from but not all of them are actually appropriate for children - or kids might just not think they're fun!

Here is a list of the top Kids PS2 Games for 2009 - all of which are appropriate (rated E or E 10) and highly rated for "funnability":

1. Wall-E for PS2 - This is not a great game for kids who are experienced gamers (they may find it boring), but is an excellent choice for the youngest, less experienced kids who are starting out. Of course, this game is based on the movie, "Wall-E", complete with the familiar environments from the film. It's basically a "point and shoot" game, and it's good for some great laughs as well. This one is top on the list of the most popular (appropriate) games for kids.

2. Katamari Damacy for PS2 - This is a game that sort of "out of the blue" became popular, originally being popular in Japan. The object of the game is to "save the heavens" by rolling a ball of everyday objects together on earth - the ball eventually becomes a monstrous monstrosity - the game is hilarious!

3. Lego Indiana Jones the Original Adventures for PS2 - This is a game based on all the original Indiana Jones movies - when advancing to a new level, a new movie theme is started. It's not only fun and challenging but is quite amusing as well.

4. Disney Pixar Cars for PS2 - The characters in this game are every bit as good as the ones in the movie. Of course, the game is based around a racing theme with 30 mini games to play as well. Games can be played in either single or multi-player mode.

5. Kingdom Hearts for PS2 - This is probably the most unusual game in the lineup, having a complete "mish-mash" of a whole lineup of Disney characters as well as characters from Final Fantasy. These characters together battle against enemies, the main character is named "Sora". (I personally recommend this game for kids 10 and older rather than for very young children.)

So - if you're checking out what games would be good for your kids - or if you are looking for Kids PS2 Games and are not sure what to buy, the games above very likely would be hits with kids - and they don't have any inappropriate "surprises" to go along with them.

Want to know a great place to find these Kids PS2 games for a great price? You can find all of these and more:

How To Fix Your Playstation 2 - The Disc Read Error

The Sony PlayStation 2 is one of the best selling game consoles in history. Unfortunately, many console owners find that when they boot up their system, they get n error message which reads: DISC READ ERROR. For too many PS2 owners, this means one of 2 things; restart the console over and over until you get so mad you throw it out the window, or toss the thing in the trash and buy a new one.

Fortunately, you do not have to get rid of your beloved PS2 if you experience the Disc Read Error. There are several simple techniques you can use to repair this problem. Here is a brief summary:

1. DISC REPAIR: The first, and most common cause of the Disc Read Error, is a problematic discs. Discs that are dirty or scratched can cause the PS2's laser to bounce off the disc instead of reading the information. Before trying any other fix, inspect each of your discs to see if they have any scratches or dirt on them. If they are dirty, clean them with bottled water and dish-washing detergent, then rinse them off. IF that doesn't work, you'll need to repair the scratches. Either use a wax-based furniture polish to fill in the scratches, or buy a commercial disc-repair kit to do it.

2. LASER CLEANING: If the disc fix doesn't work, you'll need to open the PS2 case and get access to the laser. Unscrew each of the case screws, then remove the disc-tray cover. Clean the laser-emitter head with a cotton swab and lens-cleaning fluid. Then, re-attach the cover and and re-assemble the case, then turn on the PS2 and load a disc to test it.

3. LASER ADJUSTMENT: If laser cleaning doesn't work, you'll need to re-align the laser itself. To do this, open the case again and remove the disc-tray cover. You'll then need to reset the laser adjustment wheel to its lowest level. The wheel is a white plastic piece with pointy notches all around the rim. Once it is reset, reassemble the console and test the system with a disc or 2.

If none of these fixes work, there are some more complicated fixes available that are beyond the scope of this article. For a more complete guide, you'll want to purchase The Norwood Trading Company'c PS2 repair Guide. It gives detailed instructions about how to fix your PS2.
