Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 And Nintendo Wii Battle For Hearts, Minds And Sales

With the 2007 holiday season breathing down their necks the big three producers of video game consoles are gearing up for a battle. They are fighting for the hearts and minds of those who play video games, and the winner will be determined by annual sales numbers of their video game consoles. Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo are doing battle for dominance of the video game industry with their Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii products, and the competition has never been fiercer than it is today.

At the end of August, 2007 it was Nintendo Wii that people were buying the most when they chose a video game console. 404 thousand units were purchased compared to 272 thousand Xbox 360 units and 131 thousand PlayStation 3 units. Wii has been selling more than the other two combined each month for the past 10 months according to the NDP Group, the top company for providing information about the sales and trends or industries worldwide.

But Sony and Microsoft have plans that are being unveiled as I speak. They realize that they must really be on their game this year if they are expecting to do well against Nintendo Wii during the holiday season. Sony is expected to release a less expensive version of PlayStation 3 and Microsoft has recently released a colorful Halo 3 Xbox 360 version or at a reduced price.

Sales of the PlayStation 3 video game consoles have been modest at best since its release. This is due to a number of factors including an expensive initial sales price of 500 to 600 dollars per unit, and a lack of any video games that have achieved cultural phenomenon status like Halo 3 did with Xbox 360. Nintendo Wii has been outselling both of them mainly because of its affordable price of 250 dollars, and the technically advanced Wii remote with the motion sensor feature.

The PlayStation 3 console did pretty well last year during the holiday season with 491 thousand video game consoles sold in December, 2006, according to the NDP Group statistics. About 1.4 million PlayStation 2 consoles were also sold during that same month, which shows how popular its predecessor was prior to its release. Sales of both PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 began to decline soon after that though, with only 82 thousand PlayStation 3 units sold during April of 2007 and only 194 thousand PlayStation 2 units sold. However, the number of sales has increased in recent months with 139 thousand PlayStation 3 consoles sold in July of 2007 and 131 thousand sold in August, and 279 thousand and 202 thousand for PlayStation 2 during those months.

Sony is expected to introduce a $ 399 40 GB PlayStation 3 video game console around November 16 according to insiders or the video game industry. This move by Sony, which is in response to the lower priced version of Xbox 360 that was recently released by Microsoft will be just in time for the holiday season.

There has been much speculation lately about whether or not Sony will be releasing their lower priced PlayStation 3, but real evidence was recently provided for this theory when they filed for a system model number with the FCC.

Sony is hoping to get back in the race against Microsoft and their Xbox 360 video game console which recently released a Halo 3 version modeled after their popular video game of the same name. Nintendo Wii is still out in front of these two products and running strong as we head into the 2007 holiday season.

Nintendo Wii has been far ahead in sales on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 since its release last year at this time. In December of 2006, there were 604 thousand of these video game consoles purchased. 436 thousand were then purchased in January, 2007. Sales are still going strong lately with 425 thousand sold in July and 404 thousand in August.

One of the reasons that Nintendo Wii is selling a lot more video game consoles than Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 is because it is very popular in countries other than the United States such as Japan. Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 sales are not very good in Japan. Nintendo Wii is much cheaper, and the price difference can be a very important factor for the average hard working citizen.

As the 2007 holiday season approaches there is a battle brewing over who will rule the video game industry. While Nintendo Wii has been victorious since its release almost a year ago selling more than the other two competitors combined every month, it is about to encounter a revitalized competition.

Microsoft and Sony have regrouped and they are both back in the fight with new versions of Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. With no new product to offer, it will be interesting to see if Nintendo Wii will be able to stay on top of sales for video game consoles this holiday season. Microsoft and Sony are going into the season with newer, cheaper and revitalized versions of their video game consoles. Most importantly, they are both companies that have been known to achieve and even surpass the business goals that they set out to accomplish, and they should never be underestimated.

This was due to the fact the vibration feature interfered with the sensor. Introduction to the PlayStation 3 (PS3)

The Sony PlayStation 3 console is without doubt the hottest item on the market at this moment. Thousands of individuals are searching for one to purchase, unfortunately most retail stores throughout the United States are only able to stock a handful. People were reported to be camping outside these stores the night before to get their hands on one. Due to their limited stock some stores choose to give each person who showed up on the release date a ticked. Then drew their numbers from a box, those with the lucky tickets had the pleasure of purchasing the PlayStation 3 console.

For anyone that was unfortunate to miss out on purchasing from a retailer, it is going to cost a lot more to get one elsewhere. Ads are appearing in the newspapers all the time offering them for sale. Online auction site eBay and Yahoo Auctions are selling them like hotcakes. The opening bids in many cases are several hundred dollars more than the retail system would cost you. For those parents that dont want to disappoint their children for this much anticipated console, the cost is not an issue. Many gaming enthusiasts are also trying their hardest to grab hold of the new PlayStation 3.

The retail price of the PlayStation 3 console is on average $ 499.00. You may be lucky to find it a bit less if you shop around, but that price is the general ballpark figure. At the time of writing this article, I had a quick glance on eBay to notice that they are currently selling between $ 800 and $ 1,250 on eBay. If your not one of the many gaming enthusiasts you may be wondering what it is about the PlayStation 3 that is leading such a demand.

If you get you hands on the latest hot property, be careful. In some cases, shoppers have been mobbed for their console as soon as they started out of the store. Only to have left empty handed within minutes because of thieves. Also, the number of break-ins that are taking place around the Nation or electronics stores is unimaginable. In most cases, all that was taken was the stock or PlayStation 3 consoles. This all seems a bit harsh to me, but it is happening.

So, what is included with the PlayStation 3 console? Firstly, it incorporates outstanding memory capabilities. You are able to play games on it as well as watch your favourite movies. The games for PlayStation 1 & 2 are intended to work on the PlayStation 3 Console, and you will be able to experience high definition on them. The PlayStation 3 is reported to be the most powerful video game console on the market at present; It's twice the power of the Xbox. It has also be designed to be 35 times more powerful than its predecessor, the PlayStation 2.

An additional benefit of your PlayStation 3 console is that it can be used for online gaming free. You have the choice to download games from the internet as well as videos to the consoles hard drive. Onto the technical stuff, the PlayStation 3 comes equipped with 256 MB of main RAM @ 3.2 GHz and 256 MB of VRAM @ 700 MHz. The system is equipped with Dolby sound for great quality. The higher specification in the system is very evident in the graphics of the games.

The PlayStation 3 console is the most in-demand item at present. Game players all around the world have been anticipating the arrival of the PlayStation 3. It is still to be released worldwide. The expected launch date for the territories of Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Australasia is 23rd March 2007. It is expected that there will be approximately 1 million units available at launch date, which will be split across all PAL territories.

We shall start shallow and work deeper, Appearance. Well what can I say other than WOW. This thing is huge, by far the biggest console to date. This is because it's crammed with things made from the far end of the periodic table by men in white coats. This monster can do anything it likes without and fuss, play games, run Linux, browse the web and cure natural diseases, before you can even begin to appreciate the glossy finish or the touch-screen buttons. The gloss finish is a nice touch, giving a modern feel about it. It will fit well with the home theater system and large HD television. The PlayStation 3 fits in wherever you put it, the kid's bedroom, the living room, kitchen, bathroom, shrine or even the dungeon. It has a sense of compatibility and complete control over everything it's near and has the face to make you not argue.

The touch buttons have a nice feel to them, means you don't shove anything out of the way by pressing a normal button too hard. There are a variety of faceplates too, Chrome on the 60Gb, 80Gb and presumably the upcoming 120Gb models, a matte silver finish on the 40Gb model and a darker finish on the 20Gb model. The release models of the PlayStation 3 feature more holes than the newer models for fans but also encompass multimedia card readers, PlayStation 2 backwards compatibility (whether it is Hardware or Software) and obviously the larger hard-drive. Looking into the face of the PlayStation 3 you will find a very tidy looking console, few ugly features like the slot-loading CD-ROM drive. When put in the correct place the PlayStation 3 is wireless so there are only 2 cables: Power and vision. This makes it look like a normal DVD player, until it's turned on.

XMB: This monster looks like Pamela Anderson wet with no clothes on. When turned on it looks as elegant, calm and collected as the Mafia brandishing machine guns. The background moves elegantly and is changeable and the icons move smoothly, these are also changeable. Everything inside the PlayStation 3's interface can pretty much be changed. The Infobar can be turned on and off, icons changed, background changed, fonts and other things can be customized till the cows come home. The Looks of the PlayStation 3 however do nothing to show the power within the machine.

Power: The power on this machine is just ferocious. Anything you can ask it to do it will with the lowest amount of fuss seen and not a noise can be heard unless your ears are as muscular as Arnold Schwarzenegger's arms. The specially developed Cell broadband engine can cope with absolutely anything a player can throw at it. That being said, the graphics card is made to match with its superb processing ability. The BD-ROM drive may only be a 2X speed drive but most of the games offer an install option so the games can load very quickly, eliminating many long load times. The hard-drive is a 5400 RPM 2.5" SATA notebook drive with the capacity depending on what you put in it or which SKU you purchase. The controller has enough power to last about 20 hours plus depending upon how many features are used and how aggressively it is used. It also links up to and idle PlayStation 3 in about 2-3 seconds wirelessly or instantly when charging via the cable. Graphics wise the PlayStation 3 is no slouch at all, HDMI up to 1080p NATIVELY, not up scaled. It also supports the same connection found on the PlayStation 2 although for whatever reason Sony limited this by default but an option in the settings quickly fixes that. There is also a program to emulate the PlayStation 1 built into every PlayStation 3 by standard. It is said that that a computer has to be 25 times more powerful than the system it wants to emulate and the PlayStation 3 is 35 times more powerful than Sony's own PlayStation 2. That's a small idea how powerful this console is. The processor packs 8 Synergy Processing Units, or SPU's, to process everything, 1 is reserved for the XMB OS, 6 are reserved for the games and the last one is reserved for a breakdown in one of the other chips.

Features: This has more features than a Swiss army knife, a fitted kitchen, 4 branches of Dixons and a wood burning stove. It is compatible with almost every video format used, probably every sound format, a lot of picture formats, DVD, Dual Layered DVD's, Flash cards, Memory Stick Pro Duo, MMC, Compact Flash cards, USB sticks, small planets we haven't heard of and technology made by men in white coats along with many other features such as the well known Linux compatibility, native 1080P output and motion control. As many features as this has, it does come at a bit of a price, £425 at release which by anybodies standards is pretty heft, a swift price cut sorted this out relatively quickly but for the amount of features you get built in, it's actually rather good value. With its built in Wi-Fi, DVD upscale, Blu-Ray drive, HDMI output, Gigabyte Ethernet port, wireless controller, frequent updates and unparalleled customer service the PlayStation 3 becomes relatively cheap.

Believe it or not, it was much cheaper than the Xbox 360 at the same time, The console cost £300, HD DVD drive was £90, wireless was £45, wireless controller came only with premium package, there was no built in HD DVD drive option available, it is as noisy as hell, breaks down more often than a nervous TV presenter, it's as subtle as a tank in a library and the backwards compatibility is about as useful as a cardboard cabbage. A big feature of the PlayStation 3 is the "Future proof" technology, being able to download the latest Blu-ray advancements, Operating system updates and other features means the PlayStation 3 could well be a wise investment even if games are not going to be played on it. Whilst not much of a feature, the almost silent fan will make mince meat of the conventional DVD player, Xbox 360, home theater system, built in DVD player, a child's chemistry set or even a vibrating chair.

Games: This is obviously a big part of a games console. A console without games is like swimming without water. Sadly the PlayStation 3 is on a bit of a square wheel at the moment. The games that come out are graphically parallel to the Xbox 360, despite being only first generation. However the games that are of any interest tend to be ports from the Xbox which is pretty bad. Things are slowly smoothing out though, sales are getting closer to that annoying white block Nintendo calls a console.

What amazes me is that Sony are rumored to have terrible software development kits and this makes it harder for the 3rd party developers to make games for them. THQ recently announced that some games for the PlayStation 3 will have better graphics than the Xbox 360, this carries about as much weight as saying the Xbox is made by Microsoft. It's obvious and inevitable as 3rd parties continue to improve their knowledge of the super console. Games which will cause sales surges are coming out in the near future including MGS4, GT5, Little Big Planet, Home (despite not being a game) and GTA4 (although this is not exclusive). I am expecting some killer new games to be out to take the wind out of even the mighty Wii. So the square wheel is starting to smooth out, with the year of the PlayStation 3 upon us then we may be seeing a new king to the console war, knocking the Wii off its long held platform with its rather annoying exercise games.

Conclusion: This large, stylish powerhouse is gaining momentum, despite having square wheels. In theory this is going to be a big year for the PlayStation 3, a spokesperson has officially announced there will be no price cuts in the near future, more downloadable content and a rather bold content from Sony saying that the year 2008 is the "key year" for the PlayStation 3 and that in this year we will see "everything that we've got" looks like Sony has some big things planned. With MGS4, GT5 making a possible appearance, Little Big Planet, Home and many other exciting exclusives the PlayStation 3 may just have one hell of a year and may have the legendary "Out of Stock" status which has been here with Sony's other two consoles [http://www.buy-your-consoles.com]

Use Your PlayStation 2 Controllers On Your PlayStation 3 With the PS2 Controller Adpater

Do you own a PlayStation 3? I Do. And I absolutely love this game machine. In fact, I love it so much that I put my good old trusty PlayStation 2 system up for sale and sold it. Mind you, I'm keeping all of my favorite games, because they can be played on the PS3 as well. Especially the two player games that I play often with friends. Thankfully I had several PS2 controllers (4 to be exact) and decided to only sell two of them with my PlayStation 2 console. I figured I could use my PS2 controllers on my PlayStation 3, and not have to spend another $ 50.00 on an additional controller.

Now, I did of course know that the PlayStation 3 controllers were not the same as the PlayStation 2. While they do have their SIXAXIS wireless controllers, they also have wired PlayStation 3 SIXAXIS controllers as well. However, these use a USB port in order to be able to plug into the controller ports on the PlayStation 3. This did present a problem, because the PlayStation 2 controllers do not have a USB plug, but a unique plug that's specific to the PS2 Console.

However, having reviewed and written about video games and video game accessories for many years now, and watched as innovative companies designed and developed what are called controller adapters [http://www.modchipnow.com/playstation-3-c-39.html] for essentially every single video game console on the market, I was certain that it was only a matter of time before a PlayStation 2 to PlayStation 3 controller adapter would be released. And boy was I right. Not even 3 months after the release of the PlayStation 3, the PS2 to PS3 Controller adapter started showing up on video game web sites.

The PlayStation 2 to PlayStation 3 controller adapter is an adapter for PlayStation 2 controllers. About 3 to 6 feet long, depending on which model you buy. The adapter allows you to plug in a PlayStation 2 controller to one and, and then plug the other end, which is a USB plug, into the PlayStation 3. Your PlayStation 2 controller will work just like any wired PlayStation 3 controller, minus the SIXAXIS Support of course, and the HOME button that's on all of the PS3 controllers.

All of the buttons are of course there, so you'll be able to play every single PlayStation 3 game just as you would when using a PlayStation 3 controller. Unfortunately, though the PS2 controllers have the rumble function/dual shock built in, Sony decided to remove this from the PlayStation 3 controllers (and I suspect it had a lot to do with the lawsuit brought against them by the developers of this technology). What this means is that regardless of the DUALSHOCK functions built into your PlayStation 2 controller, unless you're playing PlayStation 2 games.

Not only does the PS2 to PS3 controller adapter save you money, and make use of your now unused PlayStation 2 controllers, you'll also be able to play your PS2 games just the same as you would on your PlayStation 2 console, with all of the rumble and force feedback that would be lacking if you were playing your PlayStation 2 games with a PlayStation 3 controller.

The controller adapter is a quick and easy way to use your PlayStation 2 controllers on your PlayStation 3. And above all, it's extremely cheap. priced at under $ 10.00, it's certainly much cheaper than going out and buying another PlayStation 3 controller. In fact, you could buy up to 4 adapters, and make use of all of the PlayStation 3 controller ports, and use PS2 controllers in all of them. An excellend, and low cost way to enjoy those multi player games, without having to let your PlayStation 2 controllers collect dust.

Th story of the Intrapreneurial (corporate entrepreneurial) corporate struggles, determination and the ultimate creation of the the very successful Sony PlayStation by persistent and driven intrapreneur Ken Kutaragi, who's international Intrapreneurial Success story has now become one of the most celebrated in business history.

Intrapreneurship has been successfully utilized by corporations, partnerships, and non-profit firms in the US, Europe, Asia, and Africa. The underlying concept and idea of Intrapreneurship or Corporate Entrepreneurship had been present in corporations in the United States, Japan, and all around the world, for many decades, even before the term was used in the mid 1980's in the mainstream media.

Howard Edward Haller's University Master's Thesis was published back in 1982. Haller's Thesis was the first academic case study of Intrapreneurship or corporate entrepreneurship. The intrapreneurial success of PR1ME Leasing helped the small growing OTC listed parent corporation (PR1ME Computer) to grow rapidly with strong sales and profits. PR1ME Computer Inc. was OTC listed and becoming NYSE listed n 4 years after launching the very successful Intrapreneurship adventure, PR1ME Leasing.

The terms and basic concepts of "intrapreneur" or "Intrapreneurship" have existed and been effectively utilized in corporations for decades before the popular media put Intrapreneurship in mainstream media. On February 4, 1985 TIME Magazine's article, "Here come the Intrapreneurs" discussed the Intrapreneurial spirit including the creation of Apple, and Saturn within General Motors, as well as Intrapreneurship ventures at AT&T, Data General, DuPont, and Texas Instruments.

Steve Jobs, Apple's Chairman then and now, used the word "intrapreneurship" in a Newsweek magazine article, September 30, 1985, in which Chairman Job's shared: "The Macintosh team was what is commonly known as intrapreneurship-only a few years before the term was coined - a group of people going in essence back to the garage, but in a large company."

Now for the history of successful product creation and international marketing launch of Sony intrapreneurial creation, by intrapreneur Ken Kutaragi, of their very success intrapreneur success with PlayStation.

Ken Kutaragi, who was educated as an electrical engineer, joined Sony Corporation in Japan in 1975, at the age of 25. Ken Kutaragi was working in the sound labs at Sony Corporation when he bought his young daughter a Nintendo game console. Ken observed his daughter playing with the new Nintendo game but he was displeased with the quality of the sound of the Nintendo game. Because of his training and experience in electronics Ken concluded that a digital chip, dedicated solely to sound, would significantly improve the quality of the Nintendo gaming system.

Because the Sony Corporation was not involved in computer games, Ken Kutaragi negotiated to keep his job at Sony, while working as an outside consultant (entrepreneur) for Nintendo on their computer gaming devices. Ken developed the "SPC7000" for the next generation of Nintendo games/machines.

After Ken's success as a consultant to Nintendo the senior executives at Sony Corporation threatened to fire him after they discovered his sideline project with Nintendo. Fortunately for Ken, he had the strong support of Norio Ohga, the Chief Executive Officer of Sony Corporation. Chairman Ohga personally recognized the value of Ken's creativity, entrepreneurial spirit, and innovation, so he encouraged Kutaragi's efforts.

Then with the Sony Corporation CEO's support (and begrudgingly the rest of Sony's senior management's blessing) Kutaragi continued to work as a part-time consultant to Nintendo. Ken successfully developed a CD-ROM-based system for Nintendo.

Then in a life changing twist of fate Nintendo elected not to go forward with the CD-ROM system. Ken Kutaragi saw the market and business opportunity of computer gaming systems for Sony. With his Intrapreneurial spirit, Ken pressed hard to convince the Sony Corporation to enter the electronic gaming business. While most of Sony's senior management did not consider Ken's computer gaming device more than a toy and not worthwhile for Sony, Chairman Ohga took a major chance and backed Kutaragi's plan.

Ken was persistent and he went on to lead the effort to help Sony develop its own gaming system, which became the blockbuster product success "PlayStation". Ken Kutaragi has been often been referred to as "The Father of the PlayStation," was well as all related Sony products, including Sony PlayStation 2, Sony PlayStation Portable, and the current Sony PlayStation 3.

Ken Kutaragi has the heart and sole of an Intrapreneur or Corporate Entrepreneur. He fought against corporate "nea sayers" within Sony's management ranks and Ken literally laid his job on the line at Sony to press for the creation of the computer gaming product within Sony. Ken is created with saying, "I wanted to prove that even regular company employees said no, [and] especially regular company employees could build a venture of this scale with superb technology, superb concepts, and superb colleagues."

Sony's "System G" 3-D technology, aka Sony PlayStation, was released in 1994. It immediately outsold Nintendo's Super NES to quickly become the world's top home-gaming platform. Ken's group within Sony did not rest on its significant laurels, Kutaragi and Sony took another major financial gamble on PlayStation 2. Sony backed Ken's corporate entrepreneurial (Intrapreneurial) venture by investing $2.5 billion into the PlayStation start-up, and has gone on to build over 70% of the home-video-game-console international market share.

Sony's PlayStation product line has become the leading video-game platform. The financial payback to Sony has been astronomical. At of the end 1997, Sony's PlayStation annual sales had grown to $7 Billion, in only first four years of the PlayStation product line existence. Ken's Intrapreneurial (or corporate entrepreneurial) success has been called one of the greatest new business creations and launches in business history. Since the 1994 PlayStation's launch, this new Sony product line outperformed both the Sega Enterprises and Nintendo gaming machines.

The Sony PlayStation has taken the clear market share of game consoles, with PlayStation sales of more than 70 million units in the late 1990's. At that time, one in four United States households owned a Sony PlayStation product. The financial success of the Sony PlayStation was so impressive that by 1998, the PlayStation was providing 40 percent of Sony Corporation's operating profits. The strong profits from the Sony PlayStation line still accounts for about one quarter of the overall Sony Corporation's profits.

Kutaragi was soon rewarded for his significant success as an intrapreneur within Sony. Ken was promoted to be the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sony Computer Entertainment (SCEI), the video game division of Sony Corporation. As Chairman and CEO, Kutaragi built Sony Computer Entertainment group into a major profit center for the Sony Corporation.

In late 1996, Ken was replaced as President of Sony Computer Entertainment and was promoted to Chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment. That was only a temporary situation as Ken retired from that position in 1997 and became the honorary Chairman of SCEI.

The Playstation Experience

A few months ago a friend entered my apartment to announce that he has decided to perform a very important investment for our future in entertainment. I remained calmly at my sit waiting for him to continue and explain how lucky he was as he managed to find an incredible deal on the internet for the newest version of PlayStation 2. Frankly, I could not believe my ears. I have never played Playstation in the past and the last video game I have played with my friends when I was still a kid, was an old version of Atari. I could not grasp how someone about twenty-five would pay any amount to become another of those inert players stack in front of their TV screens for hours or even days. But the experience I had when PlayStation 2 entered the premises or my house was not exactly as the one I originally imagined. PlayStation has proven to be an extremely fun and instructive gaming experience. After the first couple of weeks I realized that when someone knows how to keep a balanced life it is possible to spend time exploring this unique gaming experience without the feeling of guilt.

Produced by Sony Computer Entertainment, PlayStation 2 is the successor of the original Playstation console that has been a tremendous worldwide success since its original introduction. By March 2005, the sales margin or PlayStation surpassed the 100.49 million units, becoming the first home console to ever reach the threshold of 100 million sold games. Dated back to 1986, Nintendo was the first to attempt to work with disk technology, but after encountering a number of problems Nintendo decided to approach Sony in order for the second to come up with a solution. Soon Sony recognizing the emerging video-gaming market planned to initiate production of its own console, leading Nintendo's management team to cancel all deals and form an alliance with Philips; this time securing control over its licenses on the Philips developed machines. By the end of 1992, Sony and Nintendo major reconciled their differences and Sony launched the first version of Playstation in Japan in 1994. By September 1995, PlayStation was introduced to the USA, European and Asian markets and its initial success was a prelude or its future sales breakthrough challenge.

The extreme popularity of the Playstation console introduced the term "Playstation Generation" and titles like Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Gran Turismo, and Silent Hill, have become the games favorite pastime of millions of users worldwide. Having enjoyed over eleven years of continuous video game production, Sony has announced that the next Playstation generation, known as PlayStation 3, or PS3, will be launched in November 2006 and will also be a backward compatible device; meaning that it with be able to play all the games that have already been released for the other PlayStation versions.

Although the genius creators of the PlayStation consoles argue that the new version of this popular video game will advance the user's experience, I doubt that it will actually manage to have the same success in the desired time frame. A vast variety of other video game competitors, including the powerful Nintendo, have launched a number of games for their consoles, which have increased users ' expectations and have made them extremely conscious regarding their next video game choice. But, I am sure that my friend and I will continue playing the PlayStation games or our choice, like NBA 2K6 or Grand Theft Auto, as PlayStation 3 will be outside our budget for at least a while.

How to Connect Your PlayStation 2 Console to the Internet

There are few basic requirement before you wish to connect your PlayStation 2 console to the internet:

1. Sign up for an internet service provider package.

2. Have a network adapter

3. Have a dial up modem/ADSL Router

The Network Adaptor available in North America does include a built-in 56 k analog modem, and most internet service provider has include a modem or router in their package.

4. A PlayStation 2 Memory Card with about 150 k space available to install the Network Adaptor drivers and software and save your internet connection settings.

The Network Adapter is a peripheral required to allow your PlayStation 2 online. The adapter has a built-in V90 modem and 10/100 Base-TX Ethernet interface for broadband connection where you can plug your ADSL or Cable modem.

A. Network Adapter fits into the port on the back of your PS2, and all you need is a nickel or a common screwdriver to plug in the adapter.

After this simple operation, you just have to install the drivers and the software (included in the package with the Adapter) on your Memory Card.

B. I have a broadband connection. Where do I connect the Adapter?

You just have to connect the Network Adapter to the Cable or ADSL modem you currently use with your PC.

C. I have a dial up 56 k modem. Where do I connect my Network Adapter?

The network Adapter comes with a built-in 56 k modem. You just have to plug your phone line into the right port.

D. Can I use my USB (narrowband/broadband) modem to play online with my PlayStation 2 console?

Since the Network Adapter doesn't have a USB port, this is a question that most gamers asked. Using your USB modem to play with your PlayStation 2 is certainly possible, also with Play Online games and services (even if, strangely, Play Online website gives a negative answer to this question), but you can't connect it straightly to the USB connection on the front of the console.

To connect your USB modem to the PlayStation 2, the best solution is leaving the modem connected to your PC, and then setup an Internet Connection Sharing connection between the PC and the PlayStation 2. To do this, you will need:

1. USB Modem with USB device cable

2. Windows 98 or higher installed on your PC

3.1 available Ethernet Card on your PC

4. One Cat5 twisted pair straight cable

If you don't have an Ethernet card on your PC, you can purchase one for a few dollars. Once you have everything, setting up an ICS connection is easy.

First of all, you must have your USB modem properly installed and configured on your PC. Now, enable Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on your PC-if you are not exactly an expert PC user, detailed directions to install ICS can be found on Microsoft's official website.

Now connect your PlayStation 2 to your computer, plugging one end of the Cat5 cable into the PC's Ethernet Card, and the other end into the Playstation 2 's Ethernet port. Activate the connection on your PC, then insert the Network Adaptor start-up disc onto your PlayStation 2 and simply configure your PlayStation 2 for a broadband connection.

G. Can I use my Internet Service Provider in order to make my PlayStation 2 Online?

The Network Adapter includes software to connect to the most popular Internet service providers. And if yours is not included in the list, you will simply have to configure the software to connect to your provider.

It's easy as 1-2-3. Anyhow, keep in mind that if you have problems with your Internet Service Provider even when browsing the Internet on your PC, you will have the same problems with your PlayStation 2 as well.

The quality of the service offered by your local provider is essential for a great online gaming experience. If you are choosing a new ISP, it might be a good idea to give them a call and ask if their services are compatible with PlayStation 2 online games.

H. I've heard that online gaming is expensive. Is it true?

Nope. There are no fees to play most of the online games available for PlayStation 2 Online. Popular games like SOCOM U.S. Navy Seals, SOCOM II, The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King, Madden NFL 2004 are playable for free:)

So far, it seems that only Massively Multiplayer Online Games like Final Fantasy XI or Everquest will need a monthly fee to be played, fees necessary to maintain the powerful servers required to run these games.

An additional cost to play online games derives from the Hard Disk Drive (HDD), which became available in March 2004 in North America at a suggested retail price of $ 99.

Finally, you have to add the cost of your Internet Service Provider, but you should already be paying for this, isn't it?

PlayStation 3-Is it the Best Blu-ray Player?

There is no denying the fact that while the PlayStation 3 has not performed the best when compared to other gaming consoles, it has consistently ranked high on many best of Blu-ray Player lists. A recent poll conducted by Nielson rating system showed 65% of the people who purchased a PlayStation 3 did so because they wanted a Blu-ray Player. Clearly, many people still view it as a good Blu-ray option. But why would anyone still consider it the best Blu-ray Player on the market. By today's standards it is a rather old piece of equipment, having first been released a few years ago. Here are some reasons why many still perceive the PlayStation 3 to be the best Blu-ray Player and will be for some time to come.

It's Not Just a Blu-ray Player

Sony has made the PlayStation 3 into a multi-purpose entertainment system. It is a gaming console, upscaling DVD player, Blu-ray Player and has many other multimedia capabilities. Obviously, the fact that it is a gaming console is the big difference when compared with other players. The PlayStation 3 can play video games like Grand Theft Auto IV, Uncharted 2 and Little Big Planet. And with the release of a firmware upgrade, it will be capable of 3D Video Gaming. This is a nice extra feature for those just looking to buy a Blu-ray Player.

Many predict the future of home Entertainment will not be Blu-ray but streaming digital media. If this is the case, Sony has prepare the PlayStation 3 to handle digital streaming and distribution. The PlayStation 3 is DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) certified. Meaning you can connect the PlayStation 3 to your Home Network, via the Ethernet Port or built-in Wi-Fi, and stream data from your computer or mobile device to the PlayStation 3. With it's PlayStation Network you can download High Definition videos and TV shows. And Sony recently added online streaming media services in it's deal with Netflix. The simple fact is, no other player can provide the consumer with such a high return value for their investment.

Blu-ray Quality

A few years ago, the PlayStation 3 was really the only game in town when one considered to purchase a Blu-ray Player. This is no longer true. Today there are many stand-alone players that perform extremely well, producing great video and audio quality. However, the PlayStation 3 still holds up rather well when compared to the new Blu-ray models. It still has very fast operational and disc loading speeds. With 1080p playback via HDMI, it produces excellent image quality on both Blu-rays and DVDs. Audio quality is equally impressive. The PS3 supports internal audio decoding for Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio. With the new PS3 Slim you can bitstream out Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio to your A/V receiver to decode over HDMI. Also, with the new PS3 Slim you get 55% less power consumption when playing Blu-rays. A feature that should appeal to many consumers.

Sony's Investment

In the High Definition format wars between Blu-ray and HD-DVD, Sony sided with Blu-ray and helped create and develop the HD format. Needless to say, Sony has a lot invested in Blu-ray's success. Adding Blu-ray to the PlayStation 3 was an attempt to secure this success. It provided a great feature other gaming console did not have. To compete with the other gaming console Sony has to keep it's Blu-ray Player relevant. The only way to do this is to continue to upgrade the Blu-ray Player on the PlayStation 3.

PlayStation 3 is Future Proof

The PlayStation 3 is a Profile 2.0 Blu-ray Player. So as Blu-ray technology continues to develop, PlayStation 3 owners are able to download firmware to update the players features and functions. For example, many experts predict 3D viewing will be the next big thing in the home entertainment market. To view 3D movies a 3D Blu-ray Player is required. Those who own a PlayStation 3 will not have to invest in purchasing new equipment. Sony will release a firmware upgrade, making their system capable of playing 3D Blu-ray Discs. The benefits of this are limitless, as there will certainly be other upgrades to Blu-ray technology in the future. The PlayStation 3 is able to accomplish this due to its extremely powerful internal processor, large hard drive and peripheral support.

THE PROS:

-PS3 Slim is 32% size reduction is
-PS3 Slim is more energy efficient
-Built-in Wi-Fi
-Excellent HD Images and Audio

THE CONS:

-No Backwards support for PS2
-Remote Control is sold separately
-No IR Port

The Final Word

With so many advances in standalone Blu-rays over the last couple of years, it is debatable to still consider the PlayStation 3 the best. But with a price tag of $ 299.99, it definitely remains one of the best choices when it comes to purchasing a Blu-ray Player.

Microsoft's Xbox 360 vs the Sony's PlayStation 3

Microsoft has tried to catch up with some of the titans of the gaming world,
such as Sony with the release of the Xbox 360.  The Xbox 360 offers many
new features that players will love:

Free limited subscription to online gaming-This allows players who have not been participating in online gaming a chance to see what is available at no charge.
All Xbox 360s come with Live-aware-This means you can get a friend invite or see who is online and what they are playing from your Xbox 360.  The button in the middle of the controller makes all this very easy.
It offers great media features including listening to music while you play games, the ability to create custom playlists and your own custom soundtracks, the ability to rip songs from original CDs to your Xbox 360 and stream music from your MP3 player to your Xbox 360.  You can also create slideshows or photos to share with friends and family.
Xbox 360 has a wireless controller.  No more tripping over the wires, although it can support two wired controllers through USB ports in the front.
The game console is not only great for gamers, but developers as well.
It is a powerful machine with an unprecedented amount of RAM-a feature added on the request of developers.
But, Xbox 360 still has some problems that need to be worked out:
Their Japanese third party support is lacking-While some Japanese developers offering software for the Xbox, it is small in number when compared to what the same developers offer for PlayStation.
While the controller is wireless, it eats batteries rather quickly.
Standard alkaline batteries only last about thirty hours, so if you buy Xbox 360, invest in rechargeable batteries to save yourself some money in the end.
When they were set up in WalMart stores before days before the launch, many suffered what is known as the Xbox 360 screen of death, "an error screen.
The Xbox 360 had also had some problems with overheating.
Some report the Xbox 360 system as being very noisy when playing an Xbox 360 disc.
Many people are eagerly awaiting the release of PlayStation 3, which may
occur as soon as November of this year.  It has been said that the
PlayStation 3 has an outward feel (which allows it to stand vertically or
horizontally on its own), as opposed to the Xbox 360 's inward feel.  It is
a much larger console than the PlayStation 2 and closer to the original size or
the Xbox.  Game discs slide into the console like CDs slide into a car
player.
Here are a few attractive features of the PlayStation 3:
It is always on, so you can access your PlayStation 3 from anywhere as long as you have an Internet connection.
With a PlayStation Portable, you can connect to your PlayStation 3 and transfer media such as music and movies.
The PlayStation 3 appears to be much more powerful than that Xbox 360, Ninetindo Revolution, and PlayStation 2.  Initial reports say it will be twice as fast as the Xbox 360.
Developers and publishers, or about 230 games have announced titles for PlayStation 3 games.
Here are a few reported cons and problems with the PlayStation 360:

Comes with only 256 MB, 512 MB less than the the Xbox 360 will come with.
Their PlayStation Network Platform (the online service) is still in development and may not be ready by the time PlayStation 3 is released.
The launch of the PlayStation 3 has already been delayed due to disk problems.
Both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are incredible gaming consoles.  It
seems that although the Xbox 360 came out first, the best bet is still the
PlayStation 3.  The strongest point of the Xbox 360 is its online
functionality, but Sony may be working on something similar to Xbox Live right
now.  However, Microsoft is closing the gap with Xbox 360 and probably will
eventually catch up with Sony in gaming consoles.  For some users, it may
come down to something as simple as which one is more compatible with the games
they already own.

Next-Gen Console Focus-PlayStation 3-7th Generation Console With A Cell For Power

The PlayStation began way back in 1986-when Nintendo was experimenting with disc reading technology. when the CD-ROM XA format was released, Nintendo began to talk to one of the two companies involved with the standard ... Sony. The two companies struck a contract deal whereby Sony would develop a Nintendo branded console that would load both traditional cartridges and the new Sony-developed CD format for gameplay.

However, the deal fell through in a shocking fashion at the 1991 CES (Consumer Electronics Show) when behind-the-scenes re-negotiations by Nintendo cancelled the contract between them and Sony and struck a new deal with Philips.
This sent waves through the Japanese business community as this type of backstabbing had never before been done-it as very un-Japanese. However, the deed had been done, and Sony was left in the cold. They took their technology which they had dubbed "Playstation" and went forward with it, developing their own games for the new console.

The Official Launch of the Playstation was on Dec. 3, 1994 and in North America on Sept 9, 1995. The Playstation had in fact released over a year previously in Japan and had been the subject of a lawsuit between Sony and Nintendo as Nintendo tried to block sales and production claiming full ownership of the technology. Nintendo lost the lawsuit.

Sony had an innovative advertising campaign that helped to massively fuel expectation for the Playstation release to a public unaware of Sony as a gaming company. It worked and has helped to push sales of the Playstation console to more than 100 million units by the end of it's production run in March 2006.

The PlayStation 2 was next with development being announced in March 1999, the 6th Generation console was unleashed to a waiting world in 2000, and rapidly outsold everything else to date about 120 million Ps2 consoles have been sold.

The PS2 had a unique feature in it's casing, the ability to fully play PSone or original PlayStation games due to the addition of the PSone chipset in the PS2 case, so it did not run a Playstation emulation, it ran an actual Playstation itself.

The PS2 went up against the newly released Xbox and the Nintendo Gamecube, due to the marketing campaigns and effective game development, the PS2 won the duel and emerged as the industry leader Sony-a title it would hold until the release of the Xbox 360.

With the release of the Xbox 360 and the massive delays in the PS3 release, Sony has slipped-they still hold the title of market leader, but they are slipping daily as both Microsoft and Nintendo gain on Sony's head start.

The PlayStation 3 was announced after many months of speculation at the E3 conference on May 16, 2005. The PS3 has a huge number of technological achievements and a lot to live up to expectations in regards to.

The Cell Processor-this is the heart of the PlayStation 3 and in a lot of ways a very new generation and direction for Sony to go in. The Cell was developed by IBM with Toshiba and Sony providing funding (approaching $ 400 million) and technical requirements. The Cell is a totally new direction for computer processors because it is a 9 core processor that runs as a single fully integrated system within itself. with one core being the primary and distributing the load between the other 8 cores.
The cell's full name is Cell Broadband Engine Architecture-and combines a PowerPC base upon with 9 parallel-processing cores are placed. All designed to run as a single unit with distributed functions-so the main core can send information to all the other cores for processing, then hand the result back to the system bus at speeds between 3-12 times that or a similar non-Cell processor such as an Itanium or Opteron.
The Cell has been tapped to be the main processor in IBM's new supercomputer, codenamed Roadrunner, that is expected to exceed one petaflop or 1, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000 Floating Point Operations per Second.

Blu-Ray DVD player-A new technology DVD player that can read CD style 50 GB discs. this is one of two competing DVD technologies, the other being HD-DVD. PlayStation 3 is the first console to include Blu-Ray DVD functionality in the console itself for DVD playback.

An upgradable Hard drive-The PS3 will ship with either a 20 GB or 60 GB hard drive installed, and from what has been reported, that device is upgradable to larger sizes as they become available

HDMI port-A High-Definition Media Interface port is standard with the PS3 and allows it to be connected to new format television sets to allow for video and audio playback at much higher qualities than standard Composite video or Coaxial signal input. HDMI is all digital, providing for a very clean and crisp multi-channel signal.

Bluetooth controllers-All PS3 Bluetooth controllers shipped are designed to be fully cordless. There is a usb port for recharging the internal batteries, and Bluetooth with up to 7 controllers can be used with one game.

Wifi access-The PS3 has WiFi access and will allow for 802.11 wireless networking as well as wireless controllers to be used with the console.

Memory card readers-The PS3 will have a flash memory card reader compatible with Memory Stick, CompactFlash, and SD/MMC flash memory.

Software base-One of the innovative developments is the inclusion of an Open Source Development suite running on Linux-which appears to be the underlying OS for the PlayStation 3. Not only does this mean independent developers can write code for the PlayStation 3, but it means anybody can modify some of the PlayStation OS to perform tasks; such as the Folding@home project from Stanford University, which will be available as a download to run when the PS3 is idle to take advantage of the processing power of the Cell.

One rumor that has not been substantiated is the Link Cable. It has been said that the PS3 will have an accessory called a link cable that will be similar to a SCSI cable in that multiple PS3 's can be chained together in series. If this is correct it would enable a user to purchase multiple PlayStation 3 's and use them as a massively parallel computer for gaming or software development, such as 3D rendering or large scale math calculations. If correct, that would be very cool and would bring the abilities of a supercomputer into the homes of millions of players.

The PlayStation 3 looks to be a huge success, IF Sony can bring it to bear before the Christmas season. One more delay could spell the end of Sony as a major player in the Game Industry because of the dominance of the Xbox and the Nintendo Wii. Let's hope Sony can deliver on it's assurance or PlayStation 3 before Christmas 2006-it will be a sight to behold.

PSP Playstation Portable Go-Get All the Facts Before You Buy a PlayStation Portable

PSP Playstation Portable Go is the most powerful and portable Playstation to date. It's also being hailed by many as the best portable gaming device on the market. With it's small sleek design, flexible interface, and multi-media capabilities, it does have all the markings of a great gaming system. However, there are some valid complaints about the system and things you should know in order to make an informed buying decision. Here is the good, and the bad, about the PSP Playstation Portable Go.

The Good:

There are a lot of good things that can be said about the PSP Go. Namely, that it lives up to its promise. It's a complete entertainment system designed for people on the go. The device handles video, music, wireless networking, communication, and, of course, gaming. And it does so superbly. Top notch graphics combine with high fidelity audio to provide users with a quality experience playing next generation, 3D games. The sexy new design is the smallest Playstation yet. It's just about half an inch thick when closed, and can easily be stored in your pocket. Weighing only 5.4 ounces, it also feels great in your hands.

The 3.8 LCD screen offers large, vibrant images and works well under many various lighting conditions. The large screen size is due to the innovative design of the PSP Go, which includes convenient slide out controls. The interface is user friendly and offers a stylish yet functional design.

There is also ample built in memory storage on the PSP Go, along with memory stick micro support for additional future memory needs. Unlike previous Playstations, the PSP requires no universal media discs (Umds) to play any games. Games can be downloaded directly from the PlayStation network along with movies, televisions shows, trailers for new games and more. The network has a large catalogue with hundreds of exciting Playstation games, and is adding more on a regular basis.

The Bad

The biggest gripe with the PSP Go has to do with the all digital content. Many older users of the system are upset that their old Umds are not compatible with the new device. They also complain that the catalogue of games doesn't include all of PlayStation's titles. For those new to PlayStation, this obviously won't be a problem. For those current owners of a Play Station thinking of purchasing a PSP Go, it really boils down to what you're looking for. If you want a highly portable, advanced gaming system then the PSP Go fits the bill perfectly. If you want to just play one game, then you may want to check PlayStation's current list of downloadable titles first, and see if it's available.

Of course, there are also many Playstation owners, especially those who are die hard techno lovers and gamers, who keep their old Playstations and buy the PSP Go as well. This allows them to play games that may not have made it on the downloadable list yet, and still enjoy all the things the PSP Go has to offer.

Final Verdict

With a sleek design, powerful interface, and unparalleled portability, the PSP Go brings gaming to a whole new level. Even though there are complaints about the inability to play Umds, the whole gaming industry has been evolving in an all digital direction for a while, and Sony is simply embracing the future. The PSP Playstation Portable Go offers a vivid immersive gaming experience, an expanding list of quality games and extensive multimedia capabilities. It's delivered on its promise, and is a great system for any gamers on the go.

A piece of Blu-Ray disc data can save up to 54 Gigs whereby normal double layer DVD disc can only save data up to 9 Gigs.

In shorts, by having more storage space in the Blu-Ray disc, it can carry 6 times more data than the DVD we use now; which able to contribute high definition effects to the TV pictures that shown on the screen.

Let me explain in a bit more here

HD means "high definition". You know, our TV screen picture is build up by fate or small pixels just like our PC screen. HDTV able to shown all the small pixels in the TV screen and you need HDMI cable to transmit large volume or pixels from your PlayStation 3 to your HDTV to give you HD effects. Are you getting more clear now?
